Biology course details
GRADING
As your IB exam will constitute the single largest proportion of your final grade (76%), this will be the most important part of your ASM biology mark. Furthermore, as each unit stands alone in terms of content, no single unit will count more than another in this class.
Your mock and final exams will be the largest deciders of your final grade in this course.
0% - FORMATIVE: Quizzes, Labs, Worksheets, Oral presentations
20% - SUMMATIVE: Internal Assessments (D, DCP, CE, MS, PS)
80% - SUMMATIVE: External Assessments (Tests and Mock Exams)
All tests will consist entirely of previous IB exam questions, thus helping to prepare you for the actual event. Furthermore, all previous essay questions will be provided at the end of each unit, with a random selection then appearing on the upcoming test.
Internal Assessments (lab reports) are also important in IB Biology, constituting 24% of your final grade. As such, they will also contribute to your grade at ASM and allow you to earn a predictable score through detailed work and planning. Student manipulative skill will be assessed during experiments.
To encourage continued dedication during the course, short quizzes will be consistently given. These may be given unannounced, though the majority will be announced with a day’s warning. The class notebooks will be frequently inspected and used as one indication of a student’s participation.
